About this website

A UK-first phonetic alphabet reference and training site, based on internationally recognised NATO / ICAO standards.

Last updated: 28 January 2026

What this site is for

thephoneticalphabet.co.uk exists to make the NATO / ICAO phonetic alphabet easy to use in real situations: phone calls, radio work and learning.

We focus on speed, clarity and accuracy: a fast A–Z chart, number pronunciations, audio, and practice tools.

How the content is checked

The code words and number pronunciations are based on internationally recognised usage in aviation and radiotelephony.

  • We follow the standard NATO / ICAO code words for A–Z.
  • We include common radiotelephony number pronunciations (for example Tree, Fower, Fife, Niner).
  • Pages are updated when wording or guidance changes, and each page shows a “Last updated” date.
